ZAGREB (Croatia), December 2 (SeeNews) - Croatian state-owned gas storage capacity manager Podzemno Skladiste Plina (PSP) said it will launch an 85 million kuna ($13.8 million/11.1 million euro) project to set up two new wells at the underground gas depot in Okoli.
The new wells will increase the withdrawal capacity of the Okoli gas storage by almost 15%, PSP said in a media invite for the formal start of works scheduled for Wednesday.
Okoli, located 50 kilometres southeast of Zagreb, is Croatia's only gas storage. Data from PSP's website indicates it currently has a daily withdrawal capacity of 5.76 million cubic meters (cu m).
Okoli can store 533 million cu m of gas but due to its natural characteristics as a depleted-reservoir facility, the rate of withdrawal decreases rapidly after half of the total gas volume is pumped out.
Last month, PSP launched the first phase of the Grubisno Polje project for a new gas storage facility that should help level off fluctuations in domestic consumption.
